Happy Dog

Wet shoes and
Wrinkled toes …
Crazy hair and
Soggy clothes …
Drippy face and
Runny nose …

Nose to the ground and
Tail in the air …
Exploring here and
There and everywhere …
Through rainy days and
Weather fair …

I will come and
Stay a while …
Follow you and
Not count the miles …
Just be with you and
See you smile.

Fat Suit

raindrops5

I wear a fat suit
Made of my own skin.
It’s not who I am
It’s not where I’ve been.

My Fat Girl can laugh
Oh, how she can love!
Her heart soft and frail
Gentle like a dove.

My Fat Girl is strong
She is brave and true.
None of that matters
Means nothing to you.

You are quick to tease
And also to mock.
No thought in your head
Toss your verbal rock.

You watch what she eats
Eat this, don’t eat that.
Pretend to give help
She don’t know she’s fat.

Fat Girl has beauty
And she has pride, too.
She hides from the world
Keep them safe from you.

My Fat Girl pretends
Holds her head up high.
She won’t let you see
Your words make her cry.

Does the universe
Give you right to judge
Fat Girl’s whole being
Based on outside pudge?

You do not know her
You don’t have a clue.
Fat’s the look of things
And not what is true.

I wear a fat suit
Made of my own skin.
It’s not who I am
It’s not where I’ve been.

Blue

Yesterday, as I walked by,
I found a tiny bit of sky.
Lying there upon the ground
Waiting, quietly, to be found.

Little bird, you live each day,
And let no worries come your way.
Do you know that you are blest
To carry magic in your breast?

Then you bring it down to earth,
Your gift and blessing of new birth.
So much beauty that you do
Reminding us all things are new.

Yet, I think you never know
How you have caused my heart to grow.
Living in the trees above,
Singing your songs of truth and love.

Yesterday, as I walked by,
I found a tiny bit of sky.
Lying there upon the ground
Waiting, quietly, to be found.

Red

walkphoto-japmaple1-sm

Red were the words
That you said to me
Spoken in anger
When we didn’t agree.

Red were the things
I hurled back at you
Hurting and wounded
Wanting to strike you, too.

You have my heart
You are strong and true
Let us remember
Other things Red can do.

Red is feeling
The color of love
From you unto me
Precious gift from above.

Red is the love
I give back to you
Strong and eternal
My heart forever true.

Endings

rose encased in ice

Walking on your street today
As they carried you away
Tucked up inside a white, white sheet
Like a present — small and neat

Were there signs or did you know
That soon, so soon, you would go
Did you say your lengthy good-bye
Before you lay down to die

Did it happen in the night
In a dream, your soul’s last flight
No time to tell the ones you love
As Death descends from above

Yesterday, you were still here
You danced and laughed in good cheer
Today, your spirit has moved on
What made you “you” is now gone

I wonder if you are glad
Or perhaps you just feel sad
To be without those you have known
As you leave this life you’ve grown

I stood in the chilly rain
Feeling my own phantom pain
Watching, somber, as you passed by
I don’t  know you … Nor you, I

But this universe feels large
And I wonder who’s in charge
Right now I am mortal and small
I don’t  understand at all

How can we be here, then gone
In the space of angels’ song
For now, just let me laugh and play
Before I am called away

One day, that will be me, too
Taken away, just like you
Tucked up inside a white, white sheet
Like a present — small and neat

Snow-Shocked

birds on a wire ... in snowThere’s snow on the ground
And over my toes.
When I fell down,
It went up my nose.

There’s snow on the roof
And the tops of the trees.
It could be a goof,
But I’m done with this freeze.

There’s snow on the robin
Pecking the ground.
He’s angry and sobbin’,
For Spring can’t be found.

I know it’s out there
With flowers and bees.
And warm, breezy air,
Come on, Springtime … Please!!

Hopeful

sunflowerFeeling quite hopeful and don’t know why
For there’s no blue up in the sky
Everything is dreary and gray
Is it odd to feel this way?

Could it be a touch of Spring
Borne upon the Robin’s wing?
Bossy bird, push back the snow
Tell Old Man Winter: It’s time to go.

There’s something out there, in the air
It whispers to me and tugs my hair
The hope of things yet left undone
Playful promise, a day full of fun.

Don’t want to stumble or to fall
But it’s okay … my dreams are small
Laughter and family and peace of mind
Spring sunshine and a breeze that’s kind.

I’m feeling hopeful, and wonder why
Could that be some blue, up in the sky?
The Robin nods in his knowing way
Promising good things on a Springtime day.
