Very Inspiring Blogger Award

Very Inspiring Blogger Award Graphic

The Rules:

1. Display the award logo,
2. Link back to the person who nominated you,
3. State 7 things about yourself,
4. Nominate 15 4 other bloggers for this award and link to them.

I am exceedingly tardy with this post. I kept meaning to blog about it, but life and my own worries kind of ran away with me a bit. I started looking around for fifteen blogs to nominate for the award, and I came to a bit of a standstill. All the blogs I follow — as well as many more here on WordPress that I have yet to discover — are amazingly inspiring to me. But many of them already have hundreds of followers, and I was certain they had, likely, already been down this same blogging award route many times. I wanted this to be a positive experience for others, as it was for me, not something they dreaded. In short, I didn’t want to be a nuisance to anyone. So, I surfed many blogs. I hemmed and hawed. I surfed more blogs. I wrote a few posts. And then, my brain being the hamster-like thing that it is, I forgot about this post altogether. So, yeah … I fail.

But now, I am back with my “Very Inspirational Blogger” award graphic in hand. Be very afraid.

First and foremost, I have to send a huge shout-out of thanks to the amazingly talented Veronica Huanani Fitzhugh of Charlottesville Winter ( ) for nominating me for this award. I couldn’t love her writing or her blog more if I tried — and believe me, I have tried! Please, if you get a chance, take a look at her blog and give yourself the treat of spending some time with her writing. You will be happy you did.

Seven Interesting Things:

I suppose it depends on how  you define “interesting”, but here goes …

  1. I am hopelessly “directionally challenged”. I have a hard time telling Left from Right. Seriously, I have to stop and think about this! And I am terrible at reading a map. I lived in the same city, San Antonio, for many, many years, and I would still get lost finding my way around town. Oddly enough, I was able to navigate the Paris metro system with no problems even though I didn’t speak French. Ditto with the New York Subway — French not required there, happily. I don’t know how to explain this; it is one of the mysteries of the universe.
  2. My most prized possession is a little, stuffed black cat that I’ve had since I was a child. One of my aunts made it for me when I was around three or so, and I slept with it for pretty much my entire childhood. It is now worn, battered, much-loved, and much-repaired. And I still love to cuddle up with it when I’m feeling bad or having a particularly rotten day.
  3. I collect anime cels.
  4. For a long time, I told myself I didn’t want to write or be a writer. I wanted to draw or paint so that I could create beautiful images that people would love. I grew up with a very talented sibling, and everyone around me was constantly awed and proud of his work. I had a hard time getting anyone to read my writing or take it seriously, so I felt that writing was “second best” — the thing that I got stuck with because I wasn’t good enough or worthy enough to be able to paint or draw. Now, I realize that’s not the case, but it was a long, hard haul for me.
  5. One of my favorite pens is a disposable fountain pen. Not only do I like the feel of writing with a fountain pen nib, I find myself amused by the contradictions inherent in its existence. It has pink ink.
  6. I’ve always wanted a pet bird, but I long ago decided against getting one because they are too high-maintenance. Also, I tend to love bird dogs. I am convinced this would be a bad combination.
  7. My favorite movies are (in no particular order): Music & Lyrics, City of Joy, My Neighbor Totoro, and Howl’s Moving Castle.

The Nominees:

I am nominating the following blogs for this award, if they choose to accept it. Honestly, I’m not expecting anyone on this list to feel they have to pass the award along or make a post about it or list interesting things about themselves. If they choose to do so, great … if not, also great! I just felt like these blogs could use an extra shout-out, so, if I am able to direct even a little bit of traffic toward them, it makes me happy.

  1. Ha ha you’ve nominated me. Thank you so much. To be thought of as ‘Inspiring’ is. . . well, I guess it’s inspiring.

Not sure of protocol here but I found out by reading your post. Like yourself, I follow about fifty blogs and it’s not always posssible to read every post – why do days only have 24 hours? I would suggest that to be certain others receive your award you notify them by email. It would be a real pity for someone not to know about your award because it really has made my day – thank you.

    • Ah … You’re right! I knew I was forgetting to do something last night. >.O This is what I get for trying to get a blog post done when my brain is not fully functional. (Although … I feel like it doesn’t function correctly most of the time — ha, ha!)

You’re welcome! I’m glad that it made you happy. I’ve enjoyed your blog very much so far — and enjoyed getting to know you, too!

  2. Thank you so much! How lovely and thoughtful. I FINALLY got around to reading and playing catchup after “attempting to stack wood on my head!” :^} By the way – LOVE LOVE LOVE the pink ink disposable fountain pen! Write, draw, paint your heart out! You ROCK!

    • No way, YOU are the one who Rocks!! ^.~

You’re so welcome. I can’t tell you how much I already love your blog and look forward to your posts. I hope your head is feeling much better by now. That headache had to have been really horrible. 😦

As far as the disposable fountain pen … I found more of them at the office store! So now, I have an awesome purple one, as well as the “tried and true” black and blue. Yay! 🙂
